Bad News and Good News (October 3, 2008)

Andy Lees is 72 years old and he lives in Scotland.  He has a son, a daughter, a grandson and a granddaughter.  He is retired and spends most of his time playing golf, visiting his family and friends, and watching TV. 

A few months ago, Andy did not feel well.  He went to a hospital and asked a doctor to help him.  The doctor checked everything and he told Andy he had some bad news.  The doctor said that Andy had about six weeks to live because of liver cancer.

Andy was shocked.  He didn’t know what to do.  He had saved a lot of money for his retirement and he thought about what he should do with his money.  He could travel around the world and eat at the most expensive restaurants.  He could play golf at the best golf courses in the world.  He thought about it and decided not to be selfish.  So he gave some money to his son and  b  daughter, his good friends, and the church.  He bought a tombstone and a nice coffin for himself.  He paid for his own funeral.

After six weeks, he was ready to die.  He was happy because helped a lot of people.  He was sitting on his sofa when suddenly, the phone rang.  His doctor said “Andy, I’ve got some good news.  I made a mistake.  You don’t have cancer.  You are quite healthy.”  Andy was happy and angry at the same time.  He was happy that he wasn’t going to die.  He was angry because now he has no money.

Andy has decided to sue the doctor because of his mistake.  The doctor should pay for his mistake and Andy should get a lot of money.
